New Year, New Hippo!

Christmas came early for Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo when on December 1, Zsa Zsa, a mother pygmy hippo, gave birth to her healthy and adorable, 9- lb. baby. (Surely to give Fiona a run for her money!) On December 5, the endangered newborn hippo was introduced to the public and shortly after a special gender reveal party was held where all learned the fourth baby born to Zsa Zsa was indeed, a little lady.

We were lucky enough to partner with the zoo for an exciting naming campaign! The public had their chance to submit a name for the newest member of the pygmy hippo family by commenting their suggestion on the Lowry Park Facebook page and Instagram. In addition to online, we set up a box at our Pop Shop in Hyde Park Village for Tampa locals to submit their entries. In just a few days, more than 1,000 entries were submitted and on January 8 we held a name reveal party at the zoo!

The chosen name, Holly Berry, was submitted by Jordan Thurmond at The Hyppo Gourmet Ice Pops in Hyde Park, and his family was there for the celebration!

Since Pygmy hippos love melons, we handed out "pygmy pops" during the celebration featuring special flavors such as Watermelon, Honeydew Basil, and Cantaloupe Mint!

We are thrilled to have been a part of the name reveal for the baby pygmy hippo. It has been a special journey to have been involved in this community event and we are looking forward to watching Holly Berry grow. Especially if it means she loves fresh fruit as much as her mama!
